There's No Place Like Home

Sitting in a bar by myself (it's the only place where the internet is free is this hotel) wanting to be home. But, my flight isn't until 6am - tomorrow.

No wonderful insights to offer - just ready to be home.

Home is where the heart is for sure.

You made me think of "The Wizard of Oz" with your post title.

"Toto to?" -Dorothy
"Toto to." -the good witch, I forget her name.

May the Lord, who is with you, help you through these next few hours, in only the ways that He can. Amen.

Susan: Sitting in a bar by yourself, are we? Your brief post reminded me of the lyrics to a George Thorogood song "I Drink Alone, With Nobody Else." :-)

Cheers!

Home is where you rest your head when the stars appear - on a beach, in a forest, by a billabong or at the edge of a glacier.

Home is Mother Earth, anywhere within her voluptuous and generous bosom.

I like that, Don. And I say amen to it for Susan and for us all!

Welcome Wandering Star!

Thanks guys - finally safely back home and so glad to be.

Yes Don, I was thinking of Dorothy clinking her ruby sippers. And yes to you and Ted both - what I need right now in so many different areas of my life is what only He can give.

Hah, hah Simon and Lutl-Luther - I was sitting alone but I'm afraid it was iced tea, although not a Southern as normal since I can't drink that much sugar anymore.

shame really.... anyway... lets all have a brawl about the truth...

I will start:- Luther when did jesus take a holiday? are we not all meant to be christ like?? How many of you live the life as he did???

I don't read where he took time out in a 3rd world country

Simon,
Not to butt into your exchange with Triston, but if anyone thinks they live exactly like Jesus did, then they must be having a different Jesus in mind other than the one we read of in the Bible.

It's the reality of the living hope we have through the resurrection of Jesus which by the Spirit pushes us who have faith in Christ toward Christ-likeness- together first of all, but also in our individual lives lived out- in this world.

So that only through Jesus we can say that by grace we're beginning to learn to walk as Jesus did. And John the apostle insists that this is required of anyone who claims to be in Jesus.

This reminds me of something I think Tozer may have said, something like: "God is easily pleased, but not easily satisfied." God is satisfied in his Son- Jesus, period. And God is easily pleased with his children, when they attempt to love him and each other by following (and seeking to follow) Jesus. Even with the inevitable shortcomings we have (in comparison to Christ, for sure).

There's really no place like home is there.

I thought of these words from our Lord: "In My Father's house are many mansions; if not, I would have told you so. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, you may be also."

You're right - it's a good thing to be home and nothing like being where you are known and loved.

"Luther when did Jesus take a holiday?"

Easy Simon: All through the New Testament we find that Jesus created the world and everything in it, so when in the very first chapters of Genesis when it says
"God rested from all His labors" on the seventh day (i.e. took a holiday); that was Jesus taking a break from work. Moreover, in Hebrews that seventh-day-of-rest is shown to go on forever and something to which God invites us all, to share in His rest (His holiday).

Furthermore, Ted is exactly right that Jesus' life is a measurement none of us will reach, no matter how hard many might try. We are saved through what He did for us on the cross and resurrection alone. We are not saved because we strive to be like Him. We strive to be like Him because He has saved us--not so He will save us. We love Him because He first loved us.

Yes. I'm reminded of this passage- that we look for a home in Jesus to come, which begins for us in the unity we have in Jesus now, with the inevitable tensions in our movement together toward complete maturity in Jesus. But most certainly a place where we begin to know and love in the same way we are known and loved.

I am thankful for the measure of that I experience in this life now. But great to know someday that will be realized fully.

so- we take a bit from the old ( therefore its more than a sign post to jesus) add a bit of the new.... take it as literal ( when it suits).. then add a bit of " well we can adapt it to our time..... flex the sabbath.. i.e. move it from saturday to sunday because " we worship a risen christ"..... and we all know he was crucified on friday ( except our calender is different AND its more to do with the fertility god)....

sorry Luther I don't see jesus in Thailand at all.
I see this-
You work for the "greatest who lived." right? therefore I expect you, as "representatives", to reflect " Him"... but you all use the " oh we all fall short of the glory of god"

Sorry... you fall SO short you are not even on the same page as him... not at all.... He was, is, and will always be... and you can to...
You hide behind a continual crucifixion... never living the full life that is offered. Just like the catholic church.. worshiping a crucified not the risen..

"oh but we can never....." yes you can.

thats the trouble... search your hearts and life and KNOW ( do you like my use of capitals??) that you are weak and fail...

think about it Luther... whilst you pay your hotel bill, some child in Thailand is being abused.. what did you do about it??

You're an interesting man, Simon.

You are quite right, the Old with the New and the future - as it was intended to be, a story of sin and redemption from start to finish.

One of the things that has always troubled me in scripture is that Jesus didn't heal everyone. Sometimes He just walked away from the crowds to pray and be alone. So, if we are to live by His example, it seems to me that it is not our job to be the one to "fix" it. I do not pretend to know how to discern the when and how of "fixing or not fixing" but I trust that His will for Triston is clearly communicated to Triston whether it is clear to you or me or not. I'd also find it highly unlikely that Triston would be anywhere and not finding a way to present the gospel - timid does not seem to be in his vocabulary as it is in mine.

Thank you Susan for your very thoughtful words. I appreciate especially how you say I wouldn't be anywhere without presenting "the gospel". You know me much better than I realized, Susan. The Gospel is what it is all about for me. And you are indeed right that I don't take a vacation from presenting the Gospel. To be honest, I'm not here on this earth to rescue absued children, nor to stop abortion or any other tragedy there may be in this world. If I'm in a situation where I can stand up for the mistreated, I certainly will, but my calling is bigger than rescuing abused children. The Gospel of Christ is more important than anything else. There were people sacrficiing their children to gods in the days of the Apostles, but the Apostles didn't make ending those tragedies their main "mission" because the Gospel of Christ is far more important and more necessary than anything else. And so my #1 "mission" in life is to preach the Gospel of Christ, leading men, women and children to Jesus for salvation from sin. And I won't let any other lesser mission become my focus, nor will I take a holiday from this most important mission, where ever I am: whether in Thailand, Nepal or any other place.
