Maybe I should read that book; I may have years ago. I respect Andrew Murray.

Even So- has a good point, eventually. It takes time and a walk plodding along day by day, in Jesus, and doing it with others in Jesus, and seeking to do so as those learning the yoke of service in this world, in mission, in Jesus.

I hesitate with books and spiritualities that seem to emphasize just "me and God". John 15 certainly says more than that.

Hopefully this doesn't come across as critical. Andrew Murray was/is a man of God, a true servant helping many, I believe.

yep - eventually, even if it takes until heaven.

I don't think he is saying "just me and God" Ted, I think his point is that if Christ is our all in all, then we will see things as He does and become like Him - therefore not matter what happens, it will all come out all right because we will be like Him.

yeah, Susan, I probably shouldn't comment like that because it's been years since I read him and some of the other old reads I did.

Community starting from the Trinity, in Jesus, has become so important to me when considering Christian formation, that the message I used to be accustomed to, emphasis on one's personal walk with God- as important as that it, just seems incomplete, and therefore truncated.

I understand that - and community is important to me too - and I am very distressed when the community of believers is not in harmony because scripture does speak so strongly about our love for one another reflecting the relationship of Christ and the Father - that they may be one as we are one.

but what keeps coming to mind is that Jesus, Paul, even John the Baptist not to mention many of the minor prophets, all went away to be alone to hear God.

Even though I have benefited greatly from counsel and fellowship from believers over the past few months and have suffered the loss of my best friend who moved away - the greatest benefit to my life is to be still and by myself and be alone with God, whether with scripture or praying or reading words of wisdom from those who knew Him intimately like Tozer and Murray.

Susan,
I too value those times, and I may be out of balance in my quest for community. We need those special times daily and more- alone with God.

Thanks for your return, and what you say is a good reminder and point for me.

There's an awful lot of conditional in that line.
