Goodbye eharmony!

Usually when I notice a paradox in scripture - or in my life - I sit up and take notice, because there's an important lesson for me to learn. I believe that it happened again this morning.
I opened my email over hot tea, as I do most every morning, before settling down for Bible study. This morning in particular, there was a lot of junk mail including an email from eharmony saying that they really hoped that I'd enjoyed my "free communication weekend" and had received "lots of communications" from men I was interested in. I had received no communication at all, which, I must admit, did hurt my feelings just a bit since at least two I’d been matched with had reasonable testimonies and appeared to be strong believers. But that aside, it reminded me that I had just let the account expire, not formally turned it off – and so off I go, plunging into cyber space to finish the deed.

Now, I’m not saying that there is anything intrinsically wrong with Christian dating sites, just that my time for this particular “avenue” for meeting people is at it’s unsuccessful end. It had begun on the advise of a friend who said, “Susan, if you’re going to get hit by a car it’s best to be in the path of traffic”; I had signed up for three. I diligently worked on my “personal profile”, edited and approved – just so you know, by an elder/pastor from my church - responded to all who contacted me, gave my testimony and presented the gospel to quite a few, and even had coffee with two – but clearly and simply, this is not the way He is working in my life.

So, I said goodbye eharmony and shut it down, answered a few emails and turned to my Bible. First I picked up my counseling homework. I’m slowly but surely working on a Certificate in Biblical Counseling from the Biblical Counseling Center in Arlington Heights, IL. My current course is “Marriage and Family” – wait, it gets funnier – I finished the assignment on “Handling Family Finances” and happily moved on to the LAST assignment – hurrah – only to find out that it was “The Marriage Act Worksheet” and the first question was, “using the following scriptures, determine several purposes for marriage”.

So, a paradox in the making – what next?

I'm glad to see you moving in a direction that makes sense for you spiritually, even if you're not sure where you're going! Sometimes it's the things we leave that first put us on the path we need to be walking.

There's a joke in there somewhere about a Mack truck, but I just can't figure out how to phrase it.

I'm glad to see you are so lighthearted about it! The irony of your assignments in the Biblical Counseling course is too funny.

I'm liking the photo too. Now I know what you look like. If only L.L. would let us see that she's not the corner of a building somewhere. Or an apple...
